Le Tort Quilters Guild Official Website

Guild History

Christmas 1983, found twelve women working together on a quilting project. During this time of quilting and chatting, the idea of a quilt club was born. By April 1984, the first newsletter was published, which included a schedule of upcoming events. The quilters looked to local history for a name.

Le Tort Spring is named for John LeTort, a French/American pioneer who began a settlement along a stream 50 years before the American Revolution. He was one of the first settlers west of the Susquehanna River in the Cumberland Valley with Delaware, Shawnee and Tuscarrora tribes as his neighbors. Upon the death of his father, John LeTort inherited the family’s trading post located at Bonny Brook (Carlisle/Boiling Springs area), which is the headwaters of the LeTort Spring.

As the LeTort Quilters began to make history of their own, they made a raffle quilt to send to the Carlisle Cathedral in Carlisle, England. The church was holding an auction to raise money to restore the south window in the church. Community service has been part of this group from the very beginning.

LeTort Quilters is now composed of over 200 members with varying skills sets and interests.
