Le Tort Quilters Guild Official Website

General Activities

Block of the Month - This year the theme is "As the Year Goes By". How does it work? Each year the president selects a theme and nine blocks, one for each month, September through May. One or two patterns will be printed in the newsletter each month and you will find all the patterns on line under Block of the Month. Members are asked to make and donate that month's block at the Monday meeting. The guild will keep six blocks and ask for a volunteer to make a quilt or quilt top for the Guild's Comfort Quilt Program. There is a sign-up sheet at the Block of the Month table so you can volunteer to make the quilt or quilt top in advance for a particular month. The remaining blocks each month are divided into groups of six and names are drawn from that month's contributors to win a set of blocks. The first name drawn selects blocks first, the second name selects next, etc. These selections will be made after the meeting. What a wonderful, quick way to make your own quilt. At the June meeting, all the names from each month will be combined for a final chance to win one of three super gift bags.

Meanderings Newsletter - Our newsletter is mailed out each month. Deadline dates for giving Dilys information to be added to the newsletter are: November 21st, December 11th, January 23rd, February 20th, March 20th, April 17th, May 22, and June 12.

Pizza Box Exchange - This is a year-log block exchange. You sign up in October, and choose either a pieced block or paper-pieced block group. Pick a pattern(s) and fabric. Your block can be 4-12", but shouldn't be so difficult that it takes hours and hours of time. If you are paper-piecing, enclose in your box enough patterns for everyone to use. You can decide if you want only your fabric to be used, some of your fabric, or if each person uses their own for variety. Write down all instructions and include patterns and fabric as needed in your "Pizza Box". (Any box will do). Then, make your first 3 blocks. You trade boxes each month, and won't see your box until the last meeting in June.

Quilt Challenge (non-quilt show years) - The 2007 quilt challenge theme was something you love, (i.e., Teddy Bears, a grandchild, two block quilts, an antique block, etc.) This category was wide open! Quilts were sewn using monochromatic colors, (i.e., red, including tints shades and tones of red such as pinks, maroons, brick red, etc.) The next quilt challenge will be guild year 2008-2009.

Retreats - The January retreat is full! The next retreat is May 9th to 11th.

Nature Theme Basket

Theme Baskets - Members are asked to donate quilt related items or embellishments. The item should relate to the THEME of the basket. The theme of the first basket of quilt year 2007-2008 was "Christmas", followed by 'Hodge Podge Lodge' featuring homespuns, plaids and lodge themes of all sorts. Each person that donates an item for the basket will be given a ticket (per item). These tickets will be kept in a separate location , and at the end of the quilt year, June 2008, a special basket drawing will be held.
