Guild Activities

Chinese Auction

The Chinese Auction will be held in February 2012.

The auction is like a giant yard sale. Items are donted by members...anything goes. In the past we have had a lot of great quilting items, but don't let that stop you from brining your grandmother's silver. We arrange the times on long tables, benches and charirs. A cup is put in front of each item for you to put your ticket in and then we randomly draw the winning ticket.

Tickets are sold by the yard. A yard costs $5.00. The money we raise goes to the Guild Education Fund. We raised over $400 in 2011 and would love to breat that record this year, so save those great items!

Comfort Quilts

Comfort Quilts

Being a member of Le Tort Quilters is very rewarding in many ways. One that is especially satisfying is the opportunity to participate in the donation of Comfort Quilts to various local charities. For the 2010-2011 year the guild made 124 quilts and 193 pillow cases for charities.

The Comfort Quilt Committee accepts your finished quilt donation and distributes to the various groups. We also can provide you with kits, batting, labels and backing for quilts you want to make for donation. See us at each meeting to get what you need.

Making a comfort quilt is a great way to practice a new skill or use up old fabrics. They are very much appreciated so please keep sewing!

Library

Library

The guild maintains our own library with an assortment of books. Check out books about anything from quilt patterns, stitching, dying fabric and learning new techniques. Wonderful new books are always being added to the library and are often announced during guild meetings. Take some time before or after meetings to take a look and check out a book or two.

Meanderings Newsletter

Meanderings Newsletter

Our newsletter, "Meanderings", is our monthly publication that is emailed/mailed to memebers. Meanderings conatins great information on upcoming events, reminders, officer and chairperson contact information, meeting minutes and a lot of other helpful and entertaining guild information and pictures.

Guild members are encouraged to submit articles and announcements to letortquilters.com. Articles need to be submitted by the Thursday after the Monday meeting each month to make that month's newsletter.

Pizza Box Exchange

This is a year-long block exchange. You sign up in September and choose either a pieced block or crazy quilt block group. Pick a pattern(s) and fabric. Your block can be 4-12", but shouldn't be so difficult that it takes hours and hours of time. If you are paper-piecing, enclose in your box enough patterns for everyone to use. You can decide if you want only your fabric to be used, some of your fabric, or if each person uses their own for variety. Write down all instructions and include patterns and fabric as needed in your "Pizza Box" (any box will do). Then, make your first 3 blocks. You trade boxes each month, and won't see your box until the last meeting in June. It is always exciting to see what other quilters have sewn for you!

Quilt Challenge (non-quilt show years)

Please Don't Touch Challenge

The next quilt challenge will be guild year 2012-2013. Challenges are always fun! Past challenges included monochromatic quilts of something you love, "please don't touch" quilts, and quilts including a crayon colr that you randomly pick. Members bring in their challenge quilts in June, and everyone votes for their favorites.

Retreats

Retreats for the 2011-2012 guild year will be January 5-8 and in May at the PBCC in Carlisle. Join us to have some fun quilting together.... not to mention all the good food and ....What happens at a retreat, stays at a retreat!! There is a limited number of rooms, so get your deposits in.

Show and Tell

Show and Tell

Every guild meeting we set aside time for attendees to show off their latest projects, useful tools, antique quilts, etc. We love seeing what everyone has been working on!

Theme Baskets

Theme Basket

Theme baskets are a favorite activity of the guild. Members are asked to donate quilt related items or embellishments. The item should relate to the THEME of the basket. Each time you enter an item, you get a ticket in to win the basket! Don't forget to donate. The baskets are stuffed full of beautiful fabric, books, thread, rulers, buttons and other fun sewing items.

There are 3 themes a year. The first theme for the 2011-2012 guild year is "Striptease" - bring in 2 ½" strips (jelly rolls) to share with the lucky basket winner. The winner may be YOU!

Workshops

Each year the guild invites members and guests to attend workshops to learn new techniques or refresh your skills on old techniques. Registar for workshops during the guild meeting. Please be advised that pricing and required supplies and preparation will vary.
